Heavily influenced by her Japanese heritage and the artwork that surrounded her growing up, there was always some form of art to absorb.
Maya Rae Taylor has been fascinated with human facial expression ever since she can remember. She adores how such a seemingly small aspect can create an entire narrative or visually capture the essence of a person. As a BFA student double-majoring in Illustration and Creative Writing, her work aims to transform the characters she paints into the people she imagines them to be in real life, creating their stories through realistic human expression and gesture.
Maya Rae believes that art can spark empathy and new ways of thinking, and she hopes that her work challenges viewers to find some aspect of themselves within someone else's story.
