Art Practices
Sam Barnum is a multidisciplinary artist based in Denver, Colorado, working across sculpture, painting, drawing, digital and new media, and mixed media, whose practice explores the intersections of nature and environment, politics and society, and personal identity. Shaped by an early relationship with art as therapy and a scientific curiosity that instilled a deep love of the natural world, Sam brings a distinctive layered perspective to every piece. Holding an Associate in Science from the Community College of Denver, Sam is completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fall 2026. Sam’s work has been exhibited at Emmanuel Art Gallery - where it earned the Juror’s Choice Award from juror Holly Nordeck - and recognized through an Artist in Residence with the Nelson Mullins Law Group, a grant from the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities, a winning entry in the City of Brighton’s traffic signal box showcase, publication in OurGlass, and an internship in 3D Modeling and Museum Exhibit Design at CU Anschutz. These distinctions reflect both the ambition and emotional depth of the work. The study of bronze sculpture, life casting, and a growing circle of diverse collaborators continue to push Sam’s practice forward, reflecting a belief that art is not just something made - it is a way of truly seeing the world.
