Art Practices
Brisa Andrade is a multidisciplinary artist based in Colorado whose work spans sculpture, drawing, painting, photography, and video. She earned her BFA in Fine Arts with a concentration in Art Practices from the University of Colorado Denver. Of Mexican descent, Andrade draws on early creative influences, including illustrated coloring books and digital media, which informed her enduring interest in narrative imagery. Her practice merges traditional and expressive aesthetics, engaging both historical and contemporary visual languages. Her painting series Burial Ceremonies (2022) examined global entombment traditions, ranging from Tibetan tree burials to Nordic water rituals. Andrade’s work is informed by artists such as Hans Baldung, Antonio de Pereda, and Charles Allan Gilbert, whose explorations of mortality, vanity, and symbolism resonate with her own thematic concerns. In her recent installation Memento Mori, Andrade explores the progression from adolescence to old age, emphasizing the transience of life while bridging personal and collective narratives. She has exhibited her work in galleries across Colorado, including Pirate: Contemporary Art, Emmanuel Gallery, and Dateline. In the summers of 2023 and 2024, she served as a teaching assistant for the LYNX Art Camp at the University of Colorado Denver, where she supported instruction in areas of her expertise, including mural creation and photography. She continues to expand her interdisciplinary practice, with an increasing focus on video and narrative-based work. Andrade plans to pursue graduate studies to further develop her research and artistic practice while apprenticing at a tattoo shop.
