Acacia Birbilas was born in Dayton, Ohio, in 2003. As a military dependent, she has lived all over the country but considers Kodiak, Alaska her hometown. Her experiences taught her to appreciate the nuances within different communities and to rely on family, nature, and the arts as a constant. While working at the Islander Bookshop in high school, Acacia noticed the effect of good illustration on young readers. Children who otherwise would not have gravitated toward reading became excited about illustrated editions of popular titles. As a lifelong reader and lover of art, she wants to aid young students' reading journey, prompting her aspirational career in illustration. She prefers to work with watercolor, gouache, and digital media to create fun and whimsical pieces and enjoys oil painting, as well as reading, watching movies, and hiking with her dog Penny, in her free time.
Graduating with honors from CU Denver in 2025, Acacia hopes to illustrate children's and middle-grade books and continue her passion for accessibility in art and literature.
