Alex Moreci

Art History

Alex Moreci is an Art History major who will be graduating in 2023 . An upright bass player and a former Jazz Performance major at the University of Northern Colorado, they are a lover of interdisciplinary Art History. Alex understands the role of art in distilling all of human culture, and takes a scattered and often unconventional approach to their studies.

Their thesis project “Meaning in the Algorithm Age: Visual Culture and Internet Pictures” examines the role of algorithm driven platforms in the dissemination and evaluation of vernacular artwork. It argues that services like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok are becoming the new gatekeepers of our visual culture. With a particular interest in art theory, Alex intends to pursue a postgraduate career as an art communicator, in hopes of synthesizing and presenting theoretically-driven art thinking to a non-specialist audience.
